The Berkeley Chess School is very happy to offer our very first Friday Night chess class and tournament at Mountain House!
This class includes beginners and more advanced students. There are two levels. Younger children and beginners are accepted provisionally to make sure the class is a good fit.
The class is from 5:30-7:00 with one round of a rated tournament between 7:00 and 8:00. (All players in the tournament must join the US Chess Federation in order to play. To join, please go to
http://www.berkeleychessschool.org/uscf-membership/ )
(If you have just joined the USCF, you won't yet have the ID number. To register for the class without it, just put in any number where it asks for the USCF ID #)
Studies have found that chess helps improve test results in reading, science, and math, and produces growth in critical cognitive skills. Beyond academia, chess influences social behavior including self esteem, respect for others, patience, and good sportsmanship. And did we mention: it’s FUN!
For siblings, the first child is full price; additional siblings are half price. Some reduced fees are available to low-income families upon request. All young students are accepted on a provisional basis.
The Berkeley Chess School is a nonprofit organization offering chess instruction from kindergarten through high school since 1982. We are an affiliate of the US Chess Federation. Over the years our students have won many state and national championships and several have gone on to become FIDE Masters, International Masters, and Grandmasters.
