The Berkeley Chess School offers beginner, intermediate and advanced chess instruction at Grace Presbyterian Church, 2100 Tice Valley Boulevard, Walnut Creek, CA 94595
Intermediate and Advanced classes are 90 minutes in duration, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. The intermediate and advanced classes are followed by an optional rated tournament from 7:00-8:00 p.m., which gives the students an opportunity to gain tournament experience. Since the tournament is rated, all students must have a current USCF membership in order to participate. You can pay or renew your USCF membership at http://www.berkeleychessschool.org/uscf-membership/
We offer a Novice chess class at this location from 5:30-6:30 . There is a separate registration page for this class. No USCF membership is required for the Novice class. Only children who are beginners in chess should register for the Novice class. If your child has chess experience, for example, knows how all the pieces move, and has some experience playing, they would start in Intermediate 1.
Please note: If a child who is a beginner, and starts out in the Novice class, is promoted during the class series, to Intermediate level, he or she will need to get the USChess Federation membership at that time, and the class fee also increases. You will be asked to pay the pro-rated increased fee.
