Description

Sam Shankland is an American Chess Grandmaster (FIDE rating 2717; No. 30 in the world) and the 2018 U.S. Chess Champion! A Berkeley Chess School alumnus, Sam has returned as Grandmaster-in-Residence for the Berkeley Chess School this summer.  He is a permanent member of the U. S. Olympic Team, and a two-time Olympiad Gold Medalist, winning an individual gold medal in 2014 and bringing home team gold for the U.S.A. for the first time in 79 years at the 2016 Chess Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan.  He has worked as an analyst for the reigning World Champion, Magnus Carlsen, training with him to prepare for the 2014 and 2016 World Championships.  To win the U. S. Title, Sam beat three of the top ten players in the world  Sam is a Master teacher and communicator, the author of a two-part, 32 hour chess video course, The Shankland Method, and a new book, Small Steps to Giant Improvement:  Master Pawn Play in Chess.

The afternoon camp from 1-5 is for scholastic players.
